Jonesboro Elementary School’s Philosophy
J.E.T.S.
“Joining Efforts to Succeed”
The following statements illustrate our philosophy and mission statement at Jonesboro Elementary School. We strongly believe that these are essential to build a strong school for students, teachers, parents and the Jonesboro Community.
Integration- We believe in an educational experience that is integrative in several dimensions. It integrates curriculums and technology within those curriculums. It integrates parents and the community in the child’s education. Finally, it integrates outside programs with strong educational value to benefit our students.
Active Learning- We believe that active learning provides students with the opportunities to discover and apply skills and knowledge, in ways that are meaningful to them. Thus providing the vehicle for the student’s success.
Diversity- We believe in recognizing and appreciating the differences among students and providing appropriate educational opportunities. We have incorporated a daily intervention time in an attempt to meet all student’s needs. Differentiated learning will be incorporated by the Jonesboro Elementary Staff throughout the year.
Accountability and Responsibility- We believe education should give students responsibility, teach them how to accept responsibility, and hold them accountable.
Teamwork- We believe that learning to work in teams is an important skill vital to lifelong learning.
Assessment- We believe that we should assess student performance in ways that are consistent with our beliefs and with the ways that we teach. Students will be assessed often and by varying means such as IXL, Moby Max, and with Reading and Math Assessments.
Communication- We believe that continual and open communication among the school, home and community is vital to achieving overall success. Calendars will be provided on a regular basis and amendments will be issued as soon as possible. Our website (www.jonesboroschool.org), Jonesboro Elementary School Facebook page, Facebook Classroom pages and Jonesboro Parents and Friend Facebook page will be updated as well as traditional letters home.
Strong Academics- We believe that each student should be provided a challenging academic program that meets his/her individual needs and emphasizes real life applications. We will be adding a Response to Intervention (RTI) team this year to find ways to appropriately challenge each and every student.
